“Daks Over Normandy” was a ceremonial re-enactment of the air operations using the original craft, organized in Britain (2 to 5 June 2019 at Duxford Airfield) and France (5 to 9 June 2019 at Caen Carpiquet Airport in Normandy).
The 75th Anniversary commemoration saw Dakotas from the USA (13 Dakotas formed the D-Day Squadron), UK, France, Norway, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Hungary and Switzerland all take part, with twelve planes dropping almost 100 parachutists in tribute on 5 June in Normandy, followed by the overflight of the official D-Day commemoration ceremony on June 6th, 2019.
Unfortunately the 7th of June saw appalling weather, resulting in no flying, food vendors and exhibitors not being able attend. The enormous interest blocked up traffic circulation.
