Aviation Museum Aviodrome is the largest Dutch museum for aviation and space travel.
Aviodrome is an aviation museum and theme park located at Lelystad Airport, Netherlands. It is the largest aviation museum in the Netherlands, and it showcases a wide range of historic aircraft, including military and civilian planes, helicopters, and gliders. The museum has both indoor and outdoor exhibits and attractions, and visitors can explore the various aircraft and learn about the history of aviation through interactive displays and exhibits.
Some of the most popular exhibits at Aviodrome include a replica of the Wright Brothers’ 1903 Wright Flyer, a Lockheed Constellation airliner, a Douglas DC-3 passenger plane, and a Fokker F-27 Friendship. The museum also features flight simulators, interactive exhibits on aviation technology and history, and a children’s play area.
In addition to the exhibits, Aviodrome also hosts special events throughout the year, including air shows, vintage aircraft demonstrations, and other aviation-related activities. It is a popular destination for aviation enthusiasts and families alike, offering a unique and educational experience for visitors of all ages.
At its current location near Lelystad, the Aviodrome has three buildings that reflect on Dutch aviation history by means of themes: the main building, where most of the aircraft can be viewed, and which also has a restaurant and film theatre. In addition, there is a fully replica of the 1928 Schiphol terminal building and, finally, a large T2 hangar in which the flying collection of the Aviodrome has its home. Visitors to Aviodrome only have limited access to this hangar. The National Space Museum also has an exhibition where objects and satellites from various Dutch and international space programmes are on display, such as the spare flight copy of the ANS satellite, a replica of the IRAS satellite and a mock-up of the Columbus ISS module.
