Some of the displays at this Military Museum are uniforms, insignis and small arms of the 12 U.S. division that served at the fort. A 2.5-acre park has artillery pieces, tanks, helicopters and other vehicles.
Exhibits:
- World War II and the Louisiana Maneuvers: The museum highlights Fort Polk’s origins as a site for the Louisiana Maneuvers, where the Army transitioned from horse-drawn equipment to a fully mechanized force.
- Vietnam War and Tiger Land: During the Vietnam War, Fort Polk served as the Army’s largest infantry training center, preparing over one million recruits for combat. The museum features exhibits on the mock Vietnam villages, known as Tiger Land, used for training.
- Heritage Families: A portion of the museum honors the “Heritage Families” who were displaced from their homes to establish the training area, acknowledging their sacrifices for the nation’s defense.
