The Military Museum of the Chinese People’s Revolution‘s four floors include ten halls, the largest of which is the Hall of Weapons. The Hall’s extensive holdings of antiquated weaponry showcase domestic and foreign weapons, including blades, small arms, artillery, tanks, armored personnel carriers, anti-air weaponry, jet fighters, rockets and rocket launchers, and cruise missiles.

The Military Museum of the Chinese People’s Revolution is China’s premier military history museum, located at 9 Fuxing Road in Beijing. Established in 1959 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China, the museum opened its doors to the public on August 1, 1960.

Architecture and Layout

The museum’s main building stands at 94.7 meters tall, featuring a central structure flanked by four-story wings on both the southern and northern sides. Atop the building is a prominent six-meter-diameter emblem of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA).

Exhibitions and Collections

Housing over 180,000 cultural relics, including more than 1,700 first-class artifacts, the museum’s extensive collection spans China’s military history and achievements. The exhibitions are organized into several thematic halls:

  • Hall of Weapons: Showcases a vast array of military equipment, from small arms to large artillery, tanks, armored vehicles, missiles, and aircraft. Notable exhibits include Soviet tanks from the 1950s and 1960s, Japanese weaponry from the Second Sino-Japanese War, and American arms captured during the Korean War.
  • Hall of the Agrarian Revolutionary War: Focuses on the confrontations between 1927 and 1937 involving the Chinese Communist Party and the Kuomintang.
  • Hall of the War to Resist Japanese Aggression: Highlights the events and artifacts from the Second Sino-Japanese War (1937–1945).
  • Hall of the War of Liberation of China: Covers the period of the Chinese Civil War from 1945 to 1949.
  • Hall of Ancient Wars: Explores China’s military history spanning 4,000 years up to the Qing dynasty.
  • Hall of Modern Wars: Details internal and external conflicts between 1840 and 1949.
  • Hall of National Defense and Army Building: Highlights modern military achievements and developments since 1949.
  • Hall of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea: Dedicated to China’s involvement in the Korean War.
  • Hall of Presents: Displays gifts presented to the Chinese military or state by foreign entities.
  • Hall of Cheng Yunxian’s Sculptural Arts: Features plaster reproductions of sculptures depicting world leaders, historical figures, and Chinese Communist Party leaders.
