Savoia-Marchetti SM-82PW Canguro MM61850/14 Italian Air Force “Sovereign Order of Malta” | Ruud Boots
SM.82 ‘Canguru’ (‘Kangaroo’) first operated in 1939 and served until retirement in 1960. The aircraft was aptly named – she was designed to carry broken fighters in her hold. Around 850 were built during the war and used extensively for transport between Germany and East Africa. Later used as a heavy bomber. Actually MM61187, this example is painted with the ‘Sovereign Order of Malta’ markings. These were applied to avoid the aircraft’s destruction as part of the armistice treaty. Fake serial, is actually MM61187.
