Notable Aviation Exhibits:
- Desoutter Mk.II “Miss Flinders”: This aircraft, registered as VH-UEE, was pivotal in establishing early air services between Launceston and Flinders Island in the 1930s. After being displayed at QVMAG for many years, “Miss Flinders” was relocated to Launceston Airport to continue its role in educating the public about Tasmania’s aviation heritage.
- “Flying by the Seat of Their Pants” Exhibition: This exhibition chronicled pioneering aviation in the Bass Strait from 1919 to 1939, highlighting the aviators, aircraft, and significant milestones of that era. It was a collaborative effort between the Tasmanian Aviation Historical Society and the Furneaux Museum.
Additional Attractions:
Beyond aviation, Queen Victoria Museum‘s Museum at Inveresk features the Phenomena Factory, an interactive science center that offers engaging exhibits for visitors of all ages. The Launceston Planetarium, also located at the Inveresk site, provides educational shows about astronomy and the night sky.
