Hawker Tempest II PR536/OQ-H 5 Sqn. RAF
This Tempest was built by Hawker Aircraft at Langley in production batch of serials PR525-567. Probably since March 1946 was assigned by the No. 5 Squadron RAF based at Peshawar (now country in Pakistan). Unit served as the Tempest conversion unit for Indian Air Force Squadrons converting to this type. On 1st August 1947 was No. 5 Sqn at Mauripur dibanded, PR536 handed over to the RIAF and given serial HA457. Last Tempests were withdrawn up to c. 1956 but about destiny of HA457 didn´t known until 1979, when arrived with other five Indian Tempests to UK. In years 1990-91 was restored by The Fighter Collection at Duxford and since November 1991 displayed at RAF museum Hendon. | Rob Vogelaar
