The Dornier Do-31 was built at the end of the 1960's following a NATO requirement for a VTOL transport aircraft. Due to high costs, technical issues and changing requirements, the aircraft never went into production and only 3 prototypes were built.The one here at the Dornier museum is the first prototype.
