 Historical Background

Post-War Use: After the war, the airfield saw limited use and eventually fell into disuse, but its historical significance remains profound.

Built During the Spanish Civil War: The airfield was constructed in 1937 by the Republican Army and initially served as a base for Soviet-made aircraft, such as the Polikarpov I-15 and I-16.

Seized by Francoist Forces: In 1938, it was captured by Franco’s forces and subsequently became a key operational base for the German Condor Legion, which supported the Nationalists during the war.
