History and Mission Museo de la Aviación Naval Argentina

Officially inaugurated on March 15, 1990, MUAN aims to conserve the historical aircraft and experiences of Argentina’s “sailors who fly.” Established in 1916, the Argentine Naval Aviation has played a crucial role in national events, including Antarctic operations and its participation in the Falklands War (Malvinas) in 1982.

Main Exhibits

The Museo de la Aviación Naval Argentina is divided into several thematic areas:

  • “Teniente de Navío Melchor Escola” Aircraft Park:
    • An outdoor exhibition featuring a variety of historic aircraft, including the Douglas A-4Q Skyhawk 3-A-302, which took part in the sinking of the HMS Antelope during the Falklands War in 1982.
  • Flight Deck Replica of the Aircraft Carrier ARA “25 de Mayo”:
    • A full-scale reproduction that allows visitors to experience the dimensions and challenges of naval aviation operations.
  • “Vice Admiral Hermes Quijada” Historical Hall:
    • Displays uniforms, photographs, documents, and personal artifacts that tell the story of Argentine Naval Aviation from its beginnings to the present.
  • “Condestable de Primera Joaquín Oytabén” Technological Hangar:
    • Exhibits helicopters, engines, weapons, and other aviation-related equipment.
