Bell Helicopter Textron XV-3 54-0148 USAF | Johnny Comstedt
This XV-3 became the world’s first successful VSTOL tilt-rotor aircraft in December 1958 when it completed a flight with vertical takeoff, converting to horizontal flight and back for landing. The aircraft did not go into production, rather it was a testbed for future designs such as the CV-22 Osprey. This is the only survivor of the two built.
