The RAF Scampton Heritage Centre is located at the former RAF Scampton airbase in Lincolnshire, England. RAF Scampton is an operational station, therefore, if you would like to request a visit to the RAF Scampton Heritage Centre, please book in advance via the Secretary. Regretably, only visitors who have pre-booked via the Secretary will be allowed to enter the station.

RAF Scampton has had a rich and varied history. Their most famous squadron is 617sq also known as the Dambusters. Post-war Scampton was home to one of the United Kingdoms nuclear deterrents – the Blue Steel Missile.

Highlights of the RAF Scampton Heritage Centre:

1. Dambusters and No. 617 Squadron:
   • The museum is closely linked to the legendary No. 617 Squadron, famously known as the Dambusters, who conducted the daring raids on Germany’s dams in 1943 using the bouncing bomb.
   • The museum displays artifacts and memorabilia related to the squadron, including details of the Operation Chastise, the historic raid, and the aircraft involved, such as the Lancaster Bomber.
2. Historical Exhibits:
   • The RAF Scampton Heritage Centre covers a wide range of the base’s history, from its founding in 1916 to its time as a training base and its active role during World War II and beyond.
   • The exhibits showcase uniforms, medals, aircraft models, and documents that tell the story of the airbase’s role in both World Wars and the Cold War.
3. Aircraft and Displays:
   • The museum features models and artifacts related to the aircraft that served at Scampton, including the Avro Lancaster, Vulcan bomber, and Victor tanker aircraft.
   • While there are no full aircraft on display at the museum, detailed models and replicas are showcased, as well as informative displays that illustrate the importance of these planes during their time.
4. The Heritage Centre’s Link with the Vulcan:
   • The Avro Vulcan was one of the key aircraft based at RAF Scampton during the Cold War, and the base is associated with the operation of this iconic jet bomber.
   • There are displays dedicated to the Vulcan bomber, its role in the nuclear deterrent and the Falklands War, and its eventual retirement.

   • The centre tells the personal stories of those who served at RAF Scampton, through photos, letters, and accounts of airmen and personnel.
