Heinkel He111H-20 701152/NT+5L Luftwaffe (German Air Force)
Built as a H-20 variant to carry 16 paratroops and 3 crew. During German surrender in May 1945 aircraft was allotted to USAAF Colonel H E Watson’s collection of German aircraft, and was flown to Cherbourg, but to large size finally not shipped to USA. Flown to Boxted and used as “squadron taxi” by 56th FG and painted in 61st FS colours eqiupped by Thunderbolts. At the end of 1945 displayed on several US bases and in Farnborough too. She luckily survived the fate of being scrapped, stored on several airbases and in 1978 transported to the RAF Museum Hendon and displayed in original Luftwaffe scheme with code NT+SL. | Rob Vogelaar
