Heinkel He162A-2 Volksjager 120227 2 Jagdgeschwader 1 Luftwaffe (German Air Force)
He-162 Spatz (Sparrow – named by Heinkel) or by public as Volksjaeger (peoples fighter) built by Heinkel-Nord at Marienehe and since 20th April 1945 combat ready with the Jagdgeschwader 1 (fighter wing) at Leck on Danish border. Airfield surrended on 6th May and in July arrived at RAF Farnborough as one of at least 11 He162s delivered to the UK. In England was tested, worn RAF serial VN679, displayed on several airbases. In 1976 restored at Colerne and transffered into collection at St Athan. In 1989 moved to the RAF Museum Hendon and displayed in the Bomber Command Hall. | Rob Vogelaar
