Messerschmitt Bf110G-4R-6 730301 D5+RL 1. Staffel/Nachtjagdgeschwader 3Luftwaffe (German Air Force)
Of the 1146 German aircraft found on Danish airfields after the German surrender 37 were Bf-110 variants. This Messerschmitt was manufactured in 1944, developed for night fighting and equipped by FuG220b Liechtenstein SN-2 radar. In May 1945 was surrendered to Allies at Grove airfield (todays Karup) in Denmark. Aircraft was coded D5+RL and assigned to 1. Staffel / Nachtjagdgeschwader 3 participated in the night defence of Denmark and Northern Germany. In August was ferried to Schleswig and than to RAE Farnborough. Since 1946 was stored as museum aircraft, in 1976 restored in St. Athans and since 1978 displayed in the Battle of Britain Museum Hall at Hendon. | Rob Vogelaar
