Supermarine Spitfire F.24 PK724 RAF
Spitfire F24 is the last and final production variant of the Spitfire family, equipped by Griffon 61 engine, five-bladed propeller, bubble canopy and four 20mm Hispano cannons. PK724 was assembled at Castle Bromwich in January 1946, but after test flights have on his account only seven flying hours. Stored by the 33 MU at Lyneham, in 1949-50 was modificated by Westland, but since February 1950 stored again by the 9 MU Cosford. In 1955 used for instructional purposes at RAF Norton and since 1961 as Gate Guardian at RAF Gaydon. Since May 1971 displayed at RAF Museum Hendon. | Rob Vogelaar
