The US Army stationed soldiers there as a frontline observation and early warning post. Only a stone\u2019s throw from the camp, the GDR watchtower and the reconstructed separation barriers mark the inhumanity of the border that divided Germany, Europe and the world for over 40 long years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div>The border museum displays the mechanisms of repression, while a multimedia exhibition preserves the memories of the peaceful revolution that ended the Communist dictatorship. A few steps away, on the former death strip, the stations on the \u201cPath of Hope\u201d project heavenwards.
