Andr\u00e9e, along with his companions <strong>Knut Fr\u00e6nkel<\/strong> and <strong>Nils Strindberg<\/strong>, attempted to reach the North Pole using a hydrogen balloon called the <em>\u00d6rnen<\/em> (The Eagle). The expedition ended in disaster as they were unable to control the balloon due to weather conditions. After crash-landing on Arctic ice, the team trekked across the ice floes but ultimately perished.
