In the early hours of March 29th, 2024, a fire broke out within the museum premises, causing damage to certain areas. While swift action was taken to contain the situation and minimize the impact, the extent of the damage requires thorough assessment and restoration efforts.

As a result, the scheduled reopening on April 6th, 2024 is regrettably cancelled until further notice. We understand the anticipation and excitement surrounding this event, and we share in the disappointment of this unforeseen circumstance.

The National Balloon Museum team is working diligently alongside relevant authorities and experts to assess the damage, initiate restoration processes, and ensure that the museum is restored to its full glory at the earliest opportunity.

We extend our deepest gratitude to the emergency responders who swiftly and effectively managed the situation. Additionally, we express our heartfelt appreciation to our community, supporters, and well-wishers for their understanding and patience during this challenging time.

Updates regarding the reopening date and further developments will be communicated through our official channels, including our website and social media platforms. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused and look forward to welcoming visitors back to the National Balloon Museum once it is safe to do so.

The National Balloon Museum in Indianola, Iowa, is dedicated to preserving the history of ballooning and educating the public about hot air balloons.
