The location of the house follows from history: Zeppelinheim was founded in 1935 as a residential and working settlement for the accommodation of the Zeppelin crew members and ground personnel on a greenfield site. On 1 January 1938 Zeppelinheim became an independent municipality.
The Zeppelin Museum Zeppelinheim is realised as an extension to the community centre in Zeppelinheim. The house was opened in 1988. The extension corresponds in its shape to a quarter of the cross-section of the Zeppelin LZ 10.
